Overview
Languages are alive and well at Tauhara College!
It is not enough to experience a language within the confines of the classroom and Tauhara is proud to be able to offer overseas trips to New Caledonia, France and Japan alternate years. This gives all students from Year 10 upwards the opportunity to experience another culture in the target language.
Language classes are enriched by the presence of many international students who have the ability to speak sometimes up to five languages. The department regularly hosts overseas school groups as well. This is very motivating for our kiwi English speaking students!
Students can choose to learn French, Japanese, Maori and English as a second Language. These are available at all levels and students can work at multi level.

Successes
The faculty was very fortunate to be involved in an exciting technology contract in 2009. The staff were challenged to upskill their own computer skills as well as those of the students. In order to achieve this all language classrooms now have a data projector and can go on line at any time to use the amazing world of digital resources. In 2009 Year 10 was the target group and they are being encouraged to use the world wide web to make contacts with penpals via Bebo and Blog sites. Students have access to wonderful language sites to listen to authentic language at Tauhara College.
