The Languages faculty is very fortunate to be involved in an exciting technology contract for 2009. The staff are being challenged to upskill their own computer skills as well as those of the students. In order to achieve this all language classrooms now have a data projector and laptops and can go on line at any time to use the amazing round of digital resources.
This includes a NZ made software package called LANGUAGE PERFECT in which students are able to score points as they study vocabulary. They can listen to authentic speakers saying the vocabulary and repeat or write what they hear. The best thing about this is that language students can access the site at home and not realise that they are actually doing homework!!!!
The department is working towards students using the School Ultranet to access homework and authentic resources and to have regular individual contact with their teachers.
All very living language and a great escape from textbooks!!!!
In 2009 Year 10 is the target group and they are being encouraged to use the world wide web to make contacts with penpals via Bebo and Blog sites. At Tauhara College students have access to a digital camera to create resources for themselves and the wider language community moving them right into the 21st century technology of e learning!!!!!
You can visit some of the student blogs on………(to be advised)
