Hockey

Hockey in 2009, at Tauhara College has enjoyed an increase in numbers going from 2 teams to 3 teams. Boys times 2 and a Girls team. With an increase in numbers Tauhara college is always looking for extra parental involvement.

Both the Girls 1st 11 and the Boys 1st 11 are playing in the Bay of Plenty B Grade Competitions. The  Boys 2nd 11 play in the C Grade. With girls playing on Tuesday nights and both boys teams playing on Thursday nights.

This year the girls are coached by Mr R Shaw and both boys teams are coached by Mr M Rohloff. For all players our training time is on Monday from 5.15pm to 6.45pm down at the Hockey turf at Hickling Park. With two boys teams it has been wonderful to see more parental involvement in the sport, on Thursday nights as we could not continue without the help of parents.

Results so far. The Boy’s 2nd 11 after a poor start have bonded well as a team. It is lovely to see their positive attitude towards playing and each other be rewarded with winning results. The Boy’s 1st 11 also started with mixed results however now they are also putting together much better performances on the field. The Girls 1st 11 has mostly played to their potential with some good results, and some close results. It has been wonderful to see personal improvement in a lot of players skills and an improvement in playing as a team.

The two 1st 11 Captains of Hayley Gribbon and Ryan Bailey have been good leaders both supported well by their peers. The Boy’s 2nd 11 has also had good leadership with Drew Mitchell and George Dawson taking on positions of responsibility for their team.
