Tauhara College has 3 teams entered in local competitions and a College 1st XV now playing in Division 2 of the Bay of Plenty rugby competition. There is an Under 14 team and a combined team of girls from Tauhara and Taupo-nui-a-Tia that play in Bay of Plenty Competition.
The College 1st XV have developed extremely well over the last few years and competed in the 'Southern Skies' International Tournament in the past few years. Although they will be playing in a higher than normal grade, they will still be competitive and will represent their college with pride.
Rugby is alive and well at Tauhara College.
Tauhara College promotes healthy student involvement and standards around sport. It intends to build a base of skills and patterns of play to give students the ability to progress to high levels in their sport. It promotes fair play, high standards around school involvement that will maintain positive parent and onlooker support. The team ethics and pride will fit in to the Tauhara College culture of courtesy, respect and doing your best.
We want to build the all round person, achieveing academically to potential, fine sports people with good all round attitudes to life, society and other people. Tauhara College has had a culture of success, with all rugby teams being promoted to higher grades from their divisions and completing every game. Our students represented their college with pride and distinction. This will be the way of the future and this academy will promote and support this concept, while developing good players - of benefit to the rugby code.
To build on this in 2012 Tauhara College intends to offer the following opportunities:
1) Senior Rugby Academy (built around the school 1st XV)
2) Junior Rugby Development Programme
